Week 2 3D

For our 3D aspect of the class this week we were given the task to design a CDU Student shoulder bag. In designing this bag we were to address 3 points of difference in our deisgn:

Shape

Media

Style

I wanted to design a practical shoulder bag for a student but I wanted the design to be a little different in terms of style. My shoulder bag is wide & deep to allow room for folders etc and I have designed it with wide straps to withstand heavy loads being carried around and spread the weight across the whole shoulder rather than using a thin strap which would cause discomfort. The front of the bag has 2 buttons on the flap woth loop holes for each side.

Shape: Wide, deep rectangular should bag with wide straps
Media: Pencil sketch
Style: I wanted the style to be a canvas style bag that incorporated the different shape flaps

Below are a few examples of canvas shoulder bags where I got inspiration from.

This week in class we were also shown a video about these new creatures created by Dutch artist Theo Jansen. These walking creatures made from tubes walk unaided, powered by wind along the beach. Theo Jansen's "Standbeests" are so life in the way the move it is really quite eerie. I was absolutly amazing at this design and the work taht must have gone into creating these walking creatures. Take a look...

2D & 3D Design

Week 1 2D Design
  • ·    Overview of unit information
  • ·    Assessment discussion
  • ·    Thinking about ideas for assessment

Today we were given the task to find different resources that, as a group, we’d find useful in gathering information and ideas for our assessment.

This is a list for designers with all of the favourite links in one spot. This site lists anything from blogs, inspirational designer’s websites, fonts, logo designs & galleries. It is all categorised so it’s very easy to navigate and offers a whole array of really fantastic sites to get inspiration and ideas from. Below are just a couple of sites I found useful from designerslist;

Week 1 3D Design
I came across this site which is a site for designers to post their profiles with collections of their portfolios to basically put their name out there to find work so Companies can actually post jobs on this site as well. A lot of 2D as well as 3D designs among them and I just liked it for a bit of inspiration and it shows a variety of designers work.
